In last week’s New York Times, David Sax wrote an article about “Laptopistan,” a land of “freelancers” hard at work behind their laptops, unwilling (or unable?) to look up and interact with the world around them.
Sax, obviously a little critical of coffee-shop-dwellers, said, “Real freelancers don’t work in coffee shops. It’s just unemployed hipsters and their unpublished novels, or screenplays, or Facebook stati.”
Are you a “real freelancer?” Are you tired of fighting the stigma of the coffee shop or home office? There’s a new alternative.
It’s called The Labor Party, and it’s Wichita’s newest coworking space. Designed specifically and solely for creative professionals, it provides an unique, collaborative coffee-shop alternative for people who actually want to get work done with and for their clients.
Opening January, 3, The Labor Party offers three membership options.
- Tourist – For those who just want to check the space out, we offer a day-pass for $20. That gives you access to the space, wi-fi and all the coffee you can drink.
- Party Member – For those who want the environment but aren’t ready for or don’t need a private office, we offer access to desks and a lounge area for $150/month. You get 24/7 access, wifi, coffee and the joy of being part of a creative, collective genius.
- Minister of an Office – For those interested in a more private, permanent option, we have a limited quantity of office suites for $450/month. You get 24/7 access, wifi, coffee and the joy of being part of a creative, collective genius.
We’re in the middle of construction currently, but if you’d like to come check us out, you can find us at 216 N. Mosley. We’ll be officially opening in January, but you’re more than welcome to join the Party today.
More information is forthcoming, but let me know if you have any questions about the space.

Congratulations on the new digs. Can’t wait to check it out!
Nice to see this concept come to Wichita. It would be nice to get some pictures of the space up on the website, too (though I only have to walk a block and a half to come check it out in person…).
Thanks, Richard. We’d love to have you stop by – we haven’t taken any photos yet because:
1. We still need some furniture.
2. We’re self conscious and feel we can more adequately caveat the lack of furniture in person rather than through captions.
Come on by next week.
